Empowering and protecting trans children: An encouraging book for children, parents and educators!

Florian is trans. Ever since he can remember, he has known that he is a boy in his heart and head. When he finally finds the courage to tell his parents and grandparents about it, they react with understanding and support. Suddenly everything changes and Florian's self-confidence blossoms: He  now wears the same swimming trunks as his  brother and can finally be seen for who he is. Will the children and teachers at school also be understanding and welcome him?

With “Florian,” the author couple JR and Vanessa Ford reflect the experiences of their trans child and encourage families, friends and educators to support trans people on their path to their own identity.

  • Addresses being trans
  • Inspiration for parents, families and educators from  trans children
  • With colorful illustrations from children's everyday life drawn by Kayla Harren

"We love you whether you are a girl, a boy, neither or both", is Florian's parents' loving response to his coming out. This takes away his fears and gives him inspiration. Thanks to the family's support, Florian is also addressed by his new name at school and in everyday life and is quickly accepted for who he is.

This children's book is an example of how brightly trans children can shine when given the chance. We just need to support them!

About the publisher

A Berlin publisher

We met and fell in love in 2012 when Anna was on a language trip to Berlin. At first Anna lived in Warsaw, where she studied linguistics, and Lukas in Berlin, where he set up his first company. After a few years of long-distance relationship, connected by the Berlin-Warsaw express train, Anna moved to Berlin, and in 2016 we got married on a beach in the Seychelles. What connected us from the beginning: We love books and are proud of our large bookshelf.

In 2018, our happiness was perfect: our twins Zoë and Vincent were born. Now we bought children's books in the three languages that our children are growing up with: German, English and Polish. We noticed that many beautiful children's books are available in one language but not in the other. That's why we, a translator and an entrepreneur, decided to  just publish these books yourself!

And so we founded  the Zuckersüß publishing house. Since 2019, we have been searching for, finding and translating the most beautiful children's books in the world and bringing them to Germany. For ourselves and our children and all young families who enjoy reading together.
