Book

This heartwarming book encourages children and shows that every skin tone is beautiful, that you are beautiful.

Sulwe was born midnight colored. She is darker than everyone in her family. She is darker than everyone in her school - and tries everything to look different. But then she goes on a magical journey with the two sisters day and night and learns to appreciate their beauty.

Based on her personal story, Academy Award-winning author Lupita Nyong'o has created a new heroine for children like Sulwe who shows the value of self-acceptance. She criticizes colorism, the social preference for people with lighter skin tones, in a child-friendly and loving way.
